so i was about to replace alternator until
I noticed the allen head bolt that you loosen in order to push the fan blade forward is stripped. UGH!!
I am new to these cars and really like my a4 but dang they sure were not built to be serviced easily.
Does anyone know how to remove the alternator w/o having to loosen that bolt? Can the fan itself be removed from the front?
Or does anyone know a different route to take in replacing the alternator.
I am getting really frustrated. HELP!!!

Anyone have any ideas? The bolt that you loosen in order to push the fan clutch forward in order to remove the bottom alternator bolt, well this 8mm hex head bolt is stripped. Is there any other way to get that fan clutch out of the way???

Im not sure about if theres a way to do the alternator without taking off the fan clutch so i would wait to see if anyone has any other ideas but those bolts should be relatively easy to cut, do you have access to a saws all or anything like that? Or if you had a small chisel and a hammer, i doubht they are very hard.

Are you talking about one of the bolts behind the fan pulley that you have to access through the holes in the pulley? If so the best bet is to blast it every few minutes for an hour or two with penetrating fluid like Liquid Wrench or better yet, Kroil. Then try and hammer another bit into it. Maybe the next size Allen or a square bit. That may let you remove it.
