Default 2005 A4 1.8t oil pump/sludge problem

Ok. Thanks in advance for any help. I have a 2005 A4 1.8t that i bought last year. Here is my problem: On start up one day start to hear a knocking noise like the engine does have any oil in it. Don't ask at this point about oil changes. The engine has sludge. Take it to a shop to get the engine flushed and the oil pump replaced. Still not getting oil pressure. Engine will start,,,car sounds fine then it will start with the knocking and the car loses oil pressure. Any initial thoughts?

You could have an oil line that is clogged.

Angry Engine Sludge

My daughter has a 2005 A4 with 50,000 miles. Over the weekend while traveling her oil pressure indicator light came on. She took it to the local dealer and has been told she has a engine sludge issue that requires close to $1,500 of repair. I was told today that a service bulletin had been issued by Audi a few years ago, but only covered through 2004 models. The service manager stated our A4 has identical symptoms as the earlier models, but thinks Audi will not honor since the car is a 2005.

Anyone have sludge issues with a 2005 that received (or not) support from Audi?

sorry to hear. are you guys using VW approved oil? synthetic oil is a minimum for turbo engines. even my naturally aspirated golf gets synthetic.

Default Engine Sludge

I would hope the oil is the correct type. It has only been changed by the dealer (timely) since I purchased in the spring of 2005. I'm wondering if I have the same problem as earlier years I have a 2005 body with a 2004 engine...?

Default 2005 Audi A4 1.8T Sludge Problem

I am having the exact same problem... just happened two days ago.... driving on the freeway towards San Francisco and oil pressure light came on, clanking in engine... pulled over and had it towed to mechanic. He says the engine has to be replaced!! Towing it to Audi Service and hoping they will replace the engine or fix it for free (ya right.)... knowing this was a problem with the 2004 models and there was a class-action lawsuit that was just settled, you think they would be accountable.

Anybody have advice or experience with the same problem on a 2005 model? Did they help you?

Default 1.8 sludge issue

Even with flush there could be sludge in the pan and in the oil pickup tube. I just had mine done. A full BG flush, replaced oil pickup tube, cleaned pan and replaced a few gaskets. $1,400. It is the labor that kills you. They need to remove the sub-frame to get to the pan, where the pickup tube is. I am willing to bet this is what needs to be done to your car.

Hopefully there was no damage done to the engine when it was starved of oil. Call around and get different quotes and make sure you use an Audi specialist.

The local Audi dealer covered 100% of the repair. Hopefully, your dealer will do the same...
