Default A4 3.0 Timing Belt help

A4 USP 3.0

Does anyone know of anyway to be able to tell if the timing belt needs changed? Obvoiusly by just looking at it, you could kinda tell, but is there anything specific that i should be looking for? Does any signs show up while you are actually driving? Also iv heard that the water pump has a poor design? anything i can do to look at that also? I have a high mileage A4, and i want to prevent as many problems as possible-

well you should probably get that serviced although you will be spending a lot of dough, but it needs to be done. If it doesnt get serviced it could end up costing a crapload like 6 or 7 k crapload

Just pop the cover loose and look at the outside of the belt for white lines on the belt that the cam pulleys wear into the belt. Newer belts will still have the lettering on the belt also.
Other than that you can call the dealer with your VIN number to see if it has been serviced there.

usually around 80,000 miles is the suggested mileage in which they say you should get a new one but it all depends on how hard the car has been driven.....like the first guy said its better to get it changed sooner than later, cuz if you wait too long you could end up spending some ridiculous amount like i almost had to

How could you tell by looking on an A4 1.8T? I see a newer belt with the lettering still on it but I think that it just the serpentine belt.

You'll NEVER find a shop that can do a 3.0L timing belt for less than $2,500, if they quote you less its because they haven't done one yet and they don't know any better. They would end up calling you asking for more money. $3,000+ is standard pricing for a T belt and water pump on the 3.0L engine. Anyone else that says otherwise doesn't know what they are talking about.

omg...
$3000+ ??

that is crazy!!! ><
comparing to 1.8T's T-service for only $1200 !!!

by the way, I noticed on the 2002 Audi Official Maintenance Schedule.
It states "Ribbed Belt - Replace at 80K miles".

What is Ribbed belt?
I assume it is different than T-belt?
