I made an appt with my Independent Audi guy, and told him my glove compartment hinge broke. He told me that in almost every case, that meant replacing the entire glove compartment. WTF? Is this true? How much is this going to cost me?

mines broken too, I was told the whole thing needs to be replaced as well. I'll keep it broken for now..

 

Mine broke twice. The first time the dealer just replaced the door, but that didn't solve the underlying problem so it broke again. The second time they replace the whole thing.

Notable difference between the old an new box was much less resistance when opening the door. I expect the problem was with the "soft open" mechanism being too aggressive, resulting in pulling on the door in order to get it open.

Yea mines broken too, they quoted me $370 for new glove box alone at Bergstrom. But it works for now and when it stops working I plan to hit up junk yards to see if I can find one.

New Glove Compartment Door, total cost $380. Yikes.

ON the plus side -- I learned about a4mods.com And, the old glove box door didn't have the neat damping effect, so now the glove box won't hit you in the knees if ti falls open.
