Convince me 1997 a4 1.8tq to 2002 a4 3.0q 6 speed
So my B5 has been a pain in the butt lately...electronics are screwy. I dropped it off at german master tech for diagnostics and repair. There was a girl there who has her 2002 a4 3.0 quattro 6 speed in for repair. She was gonna sell it for 3400 w/o repair but is getting it fixed (timing belt) and water pump and some other odds and ends. It has 150k and she wants 4300 when the repairs are finished. Overall it's nice: straight body silver, all stock, and leather interior...my current one has cloth. Oh and the clutch is new (less than a year old)
What are your experiences with this car. Anything to look out for? I'm not very familiar with 3.0's. I know about every piece on the 1.8t's.
Good deal???
I'm gonna try and talk with the mechanic tomorrow or friday (repairs start monday)(tech is on vacation)

Mileage is a little high, but a new clutch and a complete TB job (which a master mechanic should do) are reassuring. I bought a 2003 with 70k for my daughter in 2008 and it is currently at 123k. Original clutch and did the TB at 85k. No real problems other than cats replaced at 79k under warranty. Not an issue unless you are in a smog test state. The only CEL is due to the clutch interlock and it was replaced twice, but does not resolve. I can turn it off with a code reader, but it comes back on again within a hundred miles and has for years.
The 3.0 package is a lot nicer than the 1.8T package, as I discovered when shopping. The 3.0 delivers solid acceleration, but it is not breathtaking. It is very linear. I like the car and looked for one to replace my signature A6 (which has 231k), but could not find one with reasonable mileage and price. So, I picked up a 2011 A4 2.0T with 99k at a very good price to replace the A6, and am keeping the A6 as a winter-beater for the time being.
