Exclamation fog lights not working

i did a full search on this website prior to this posting, so i am sorry if the answer has been previously posted.

i just bought an 02 a4 1.8t... it has fogs equipped but when i pull the switch, they do not turn on, nor does the rear fog, and there are no light warnings.

i checked fuses, but there is nothing noted on the fuse panel. i'm new to audi's, and i am just curious where i need to look for the problem.

do i replace a fuse?
do i replace bulbs?
is there a more sinister culprit?

if it's not a fuse it's likely the headlight ****/switch.

i pulled the switch and verified the connection was secure. I guess I will just have to go find someone with an operational switch and swap them to see if that's the issue before i buy a brand new one.

Just a question...but do you have the headlights on while you're trying to turn on the fog lights?

Yes, lows must be on. Foglights will not operate without the lowbeams. They turn off again if you switch to high-beams(even though low's stay on). You have to "vag" (search ross-tech vag-com)the central convenience module to RDW as well as splice pins #1 and #2 on the headlight switch for fogs to operate independently of the low-beams. Even with that done the DRL's still need to be switched to the on position.

Also should be mentioned that when you pull switch out two-positions(all the way out) that turns on your rear fog light. There is only one, apparently so its not confused with brake lights. It's on the driver's side. It looks ridiculous leave it off.

Here's my car vag'd and spliced:

yes, i have the lights on and there is still no fog lights, front or rear.

note: when i have the lights on and pull the switch out one click - no fog lights and no indicator lights... then i pull the switch for the second click (rear fogs) - no fog lights, but the rear indicator on the switch **** lights up...

regardless, i have no operational fogs front or rear and no lights out warning.

this is weird.

That sounds like a bad switch to me.

He may not need to splice the wires since he has an 02. From some research, I've discovered that for some 02 models, you only have to Vag-Com.
