We continue to get copious amounts of snow up here and now that I don't have a skid plate it's getting packed with snow up front. I don't have a garage to park it in regularly so I am wondering what that could do, any ideas of problems that may arise.

move somewhere warm!?

getting snow all packed underneath and in the grille areas is not an ideal situation and IMHO really asking for trouble. If you can't get a "spec" skid plate any time soon you may want to look into fabricating a temporary alternative. It doesn't need to be anything fancy, just something to mount up under there to keep the snow from getting packed in

Finally got my Panzer skid plate from dieselgeek.com installed. It's a great fit and pretty easy. Little more peace of mind now. Not sure what kind of protection the plastic one gave.

It's the first upgrade I've made to my A4!

Leave it off. It is good for all that road grime to get into the rotating parts like the alternator , power steering pump & anything else that rotates.
It is even better if you have a little oil leaking so it can stick & accumulate over time
