Transmission or Fuel pump???? 1.8t b6

Yeah man, I am sorry about this, but is seems that you have fallen victim to the faulty CVT. Also, know this, the CVT does in fact have a clutch in it, so the burning clutch smell may be literally a burning clutch.

Great....just great. Still have not been able to get it in yet. I'm also thinking of having a Mr.Transmission check it out if the dealer fails. I hope to god it's not the tranny.
Should have an answer this thursday. Finally got it booked into Autohaus

My new bosch 040 fuel pump from DTHaus (http://shop.dthaus.com/product.sc?ca...&productId=191) was delivered today. Installed it tonight using their DYI in under 2 hours, and got immediate relief from the noisy FPR and the codes I was getting (see below).
The FPR noise first started a few months ago, lasting a couple of weeks then going away until recently. This time the noise progressed from humming to screeching and along with the codes I knew the original fuel pump didn't have much longer to live. In hindsight it's clear that for quite some time my performance had been steadily degrading as the ECU adjusted to an insufficient fuel supply. On my extended test drive tonight my butt dyno noticed a huge difference. It also seems like it's pulling through the high RPMs better than it ever has - time will tell whether this is real or the placebo effect.
In any case, a great upgrade to a crappy OEM fuel pump - definitely worth it compared to replacing with another OEM one.
Cheers

So here it is finally......... The dealer says it's the clutch pack and it needs a new ATF filter (Auto Tranny fluid?). SO I'm either looking at $2400 (w/o tax) for the parts and work or $7000 for a whole new tranny.
It's pretty bad when I had it figured out that it was tranny/clutch related and the dealer needed two shots at it to figure it out, but c'est la vie

Well, finally had the time for the car to be in the shop.... $2700 and 2 days later. Clutch pack and a bunch of other parts I don't remember right now. Runs like new. Thinking it may be a good idea to dump the car.....
