This sounds like the correct answer.
Can anyone confirm?

(I'm having these symptoms with my 2004 B6. Haven't taken any action; but will report back here when I do and if I have success.)

Default Local mechanic says it's manual transmission

Local mechanic says it's the manual transmission and that I'll need to take it to a specialty shop or someone who can rebuild transmissions.

Before you rebuild the tranny, get a second opinion. There will be a little gear whine with the MT6 and as long as it shifts well, I would consider that normal. I have been changing the tranny (and both differentials) fluid roughly every 60k miles and at 206k my MT6 is fine. (Well, second gear synchro seems to be wearing as 1-2 shift is sometimes sticky.)

Default Whining noise started today!

OK, I have the whining noise, started suddenly. DIRECTLY related to speed not eng. rpm's.
Sounds like it may be comming fron the front or possibly the Trans.?
Anyone come up with any answers yet?

Default Audi TT whining when starts moving

Hi Guys,
Recently my TT 2000(MK1) starts whining in driver side. It happens when I

release the clutch in the first gear to start moving, and after 3-5 mph the

whining noise disappears, I don't have this issue with revers gear. I can not

detect it if it comes from axle, wheel or transmission or at least I don't know

how to !...
Any idea what it is ?
Thanks
