Default Bought the A4!

With good advice from the members here I ended up buying an 2005.5 A4 quattro.
I'll probably be posting more details later but had a quick question and have seen this issue posted elsewhere with no answer.
Tried hooking up my OBDII code reader and got an "ERR" message.
I've used this on my other cars and they all worked.
Any idea what the problem could be?
Thanks!

Enjoy it. I hope it works out to be a positive experience for you!

On the ERR message, no clue. Both my cheap OBD scanners work on my car. Maybe the connector itself is dirty?

Same here my cheap Walmart bought one works fine. Only thing I can think of is to make sure the key is off when plugging in the reader and then turning the key.

Default Congrats!

Just make sure you read the Maintenance Sticky and if nothing else pay close attention to the Fuel pump Cam follower.

My 08 follower ground right out at 90,000 miles so it's not a fixed problem like Audi would like us to believe.

I also have the torque converter slip problem. I usually just beat it a little. Once it warms up it's fine.

Ironically my 98 A6 had the same torque converter issue lol

My 08 follower looked fine at 105k. Still worth keeping a close eye on either way!

Roger that!
I already have a new cam follower and the fuel pump o-ring in hand.
Probably do that in the next week or two.
Thanks

I need to give the scanner a try again.
Maybe I'm not plugging it all the way in.
Thanks

Post a picture when you get it out. Mine had 94k miles on it and had worn the coating of and was just starting to wear a ring in the silver metal underneath. Still don't know if it would've lasted 1k miles or 100k, but better safe than sorry since my car is now 10 years old and outside Audi's extended coverage for the issue.

I'm going to try to get to mine this weekend.
Also plan on doing the snub mount and turbo bypass valve.
