Brakes
Hello,
So I own a 2012 Audi A4. I recently had it to the shop for the 85,000 mile maintenance. My brakes have been making racket so I had them check them. The tech says the break pads are fine. So what is causing this squeaking noise when I apply the brakes? Any idea how to fix it. I find it embarrassing to be driving an Audi with squeaking brakes. This is every time I apply the brakes.

Sounds like my brakes. I bought this nice spanking S4 (B8) and hear those brakes all the time. Sometimes it is quiet after washing all the dust/dirt off for a a few miles. But as soon as the brake dust kicks in or it gets cold/wet the squeak returns.
After reading up on that it seems we are not alone and whatever they used for the b8 as brakes sucks (noise/dust wise). Only good resolution: replace brakes with aftermarket ones.
I bought a set of EBC rotors and brakes (red stuff) and can't wait to install them to have some quiet and good performing brakes. The OEM is ok for braking so I'm not dreaming of better brake power over stock with EBC but just having less dust to keep the rims shiny and the noise down is going to make me much happier.

Brake squealing usually is caused by the rear of the brake pad vibrating against the metal piston. Occasionally a hard metallic pad will cause the noise and if that is what you have then you either live with it or change the pads. Most people change to ceramic pads which usually eliminated the pad noise and excessive brake dust. Also most new after market pads come with a non metal insulator coating that prevents the metal to metal contact. There also is brake pad grease which you coat on the rear of the pad when installing. This is used if there is no insulator pad.
