Putting a 4.2L in my 1999 a6 quattro 2.8L manual trans.
I know now that the 1999 a6 is about 3 inches shorter than the 2000 doner i have. But the doner is complete with a shelled out automatic. Any one care to comment? If the motor will bolt up to manual tranny then its gonna happen.

I don't know enough about Audi's (yet...), but I'd think it would depend on where the extra 3 inches was at on the donor car. My thought would be, if the extension was on the body (i.e., extra trunk or cabin space), and not related to the framework, then aside from motor mounts and wiring issues, you shouldn't have much of a problem. But again, I still don't know much about the Audi yet, as I've only owned mine for 4 months.
