I have intermittent gearbox fault that flashes an error for a few seconds and then disappears. I plugged the car into my solus computer and it gave an error code of 8040-P17D8 ( torque limitation due to clutch temperature ) I ve been told there is a technical service bulletin out for my year and model regarding this fault. ( TSB number 2022497/18 ) I can't seem to lay my hands on this though but I am told the repair is to replace the mechatronic ecu bord due to a known problem with it. Please could any shed any more light on this problem or even post the tsb ?

 

To answer my own question, yes there is a known fault and yes there is a tsb out from audi for this very problem. It basically involves removing the mechatronic unit and replacing the circuit bord which is approx £300 rather then the £2500 for the complete mechatronic unit. Although my car was out of its warranty period. My local audi dealer was prepared to give me a good will contribution towards my total repair which was £1200 which in the end only cost me £230 I am please to say I have a very good local dealer. However this was based on the fact my car had a full Audi service history and the fact this was a known problem. Oh one more thing, my A5 is a 2009 model year with the 3.0 tdi engine. Hope this helps any poor soul that find them selves in the same horrible situation I was in.
