Default Water in charcoal canoster

Hey guys was just wondering if anyone else has had this problem. I bought a 2003 Audi A4 Quattro 3.0 sport edition recently and on the way home it there a cel. I had the code pulled and replaced the purge valve which was the most common problem associated with the code (I believe p4401) anyways I put gas in it for the first time the next day and couldn't pump more than .10 at a time be used the pump kept clicking and you could hear the tank hissing pressure. So I took it to my mechanic who said my charcoal canoster was junk and was filled with water. I have since replaced and am in the process of seeing if I throw anymore codes but ice only driven roughly 5 miles since I replaced it but was wondering if there is a bigger issue here that I could be missing. Thanks guys.
