RE: 04 a8l won't turn over
still could be the battery, most newer audi have huge batteries that are heavily used by the car, the A8 i would imagine even more. When my A4 battery started going up i thought it was the starter because the battery passed testing. I threw in another battery just to be sure and it was the battery. If it dosent have enough cca's it wont do a thing at the starter.

RE: 04 a8l won't turn over
The mechanic said that he tested the battery and that if it is below 10.6 volts it won't start. He said that our battery tested above that, so it is not the battery. Any other thoughts, suggestions, etc., would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

Put yer foot on the brake and move the shifter to drive and back to park. Then try it <<shruggs>>, it worked with an exGF's B-M-Trouble-U, once...

You cant really test the battery the old school way because there is a battery manager module that can cause the battery tester to read incorrectly. Check for faults. Many times there will be a fault for engine mechanical block during starting or something like that. That fault is thrown when the access start control module tells the starter to start but the engine doesnt turn. I would also check the battery. It should be higher than 60% in the mmi. It should also be way more than 10v. More like 12.5.

thats completly correct advice above, a easy way is to plug in another battery from somewhere else with similiar cca's and try it then. also you should listen to awdholic, i didnt think about it but the shift neutral safety switch could be faulty. maybe you can try to start it in nuetral.
