Default clicking noises coming from dash of '00 A8

Hi folks, I'm a newbie to the forum. I have a silver 2000 a* with 104K miles that I love but there is an annoying clicking sound coming from the dash. It is intermitent, starting up maybe five or ten minutes after I start driving, lasting for about 30 seconds and then returning in another 10 or 15 mintues. Sometimes it comes from behind the instrument cluster and sometimes it seems to come from behind the radio/AC control panel. I have many theories, most probably wrong, but the one I've focused on is that it has to do with an AC flap motor or motors. The AC works, blows cold air. The noise has been there for some time now. Can anyone point me in the right direction.

Thanks for your help.

Thanks for the insight. Do you know how I can locate the sensor(s) involved in order to replace it/them?
