I take my 2011 A6 to get an oil change the other day from a trusted mechanic. Shortly after picking it up, car starts to run hot when idling. I take it back.

Mechanic says one of the radiator fans is rubbing against a dirty brush and will have a tendency to get stuck. He recommends replacing the fans.

Two days later I turn on the AC for the first time in several months and it's blowing hot air.

Ideas on what each of these issues could be? Related or a coincidence?

Hm.. what to tell.. Did the mechanic say anything after? Did you tell him?

 

Are the fans coming on when you have the AC engaged? If not, the fans could be the issue. If the fans are not working correctly, it will run hot AND the AC will not cool as well. Check the fan operation first.
