Default Engine Speed Maximum warning

Hi,
I'm brand new to the forum and just got my first Audi. It's a 2012 A6 3.0 about 1 Month old and 1200 miles. Today while driving home at about 90 I had the Engine speed maximum warning come on stating that speed would be limited to 4000 rpm and the EPC light also came on.
I stopped to go to a store , came out and continued home with none of the warnings coming back on. Any idea what all this means?

hrmmm...

there is a way to "set" a maximum speed warning in your instrument cluster. it is designed so that the car will warn you if you are exceeding what you have preset as the maximum speed that you want to go. I'm not sure if that is what happened on your car though. what you describe sound more like a "something is wrong" kind of scenario.

your first stop should be the owner's manual. if that doesn't answer you question, the next stop should be the stealership.

sorry to be semi-vague but my car is 10 years older than yours. bound to be a few differences

good luck

enjoy your stay here at the forums

Thanks for the reply. Yeah, I think something is wrong. Car drives fine so hopefully it is just some sort of sensor thing. Bummer though with car only 4 weeks and 1200 miles old. Happened twice more last night too. With the new LED gauges, the car actually moved it's redline on the gauge from 6500 to 4000.
This only seems to happen when the car starts to go over 3000.

Took the car in today and they hooked it up to the computer. It looks like one of the oil pressure valves was staying open and therefore not able to build up the right pressure when I called for it at higher RPM. That is why I was getting the RPM warning and the EPC code. At least that's what they think. We'll know more once they replace it.
Meanwhile got an A4 to drive.

The dealership called and they replaced the oil pressure sensor valve and the warning is still happening. They assure nothing wrong mechanically, just electronics posting codes in error. Now they have to contact Audi to get directions for next steps. Guess I'll be driving the loaner A4 for a while longer.

Talked to the dealership yesterday. They ended up having to replace the oil pressure valve sensor and then the actual valve/switch. They say it is now fixed. They assured me it Was unusual problem and did not do any damage to the engine. Just the car protecting itself.

Default 4000 Max RPM Warning and EPC light on on A6 2012

I have a 42,000 miles A6 and this last winter the problem started for the first time. I assumed it was the cold weather but it is now happening twice per week. I am trying to contact the dealer and hope they have had more cases so they know how to solve it. Has your problem being resolved?

I installed my USP intake, and now that EPC warning and 4000 rpm max engine speed warning comes on, every time I accelerate hard.
I restart the car, and it goes away, but as soon as I accelerate hard again, it comes back on, and makes me drive slow
I guess I have to put the car back to its stock intake and flash back to my stock tune, before I can take it in for service.
