Major Issue 1990 Audi V8 Q

What would cause the car to suddenly lose power and come to a crawl. Topped off the trans fluid, and started 'er up and ran for another 15 min then the same thing happened, lost power all the way to a crawl. It happened every 15 min 4 or 5 times.
