Default I gave in!!!

Well Hi

In the 4 and a half years since passing my test I've had 12 cars and none of them have been Audi's, in fact only one was German. That is until now

The story goes after a run of 3 Volvo's I graduated and got myself a full time job in the classroom and spent some proper money on a 2008 Volvo XC70 D5 and it was lovely but I'm getting married in 11 days and I've decided to go for my masters degree in education while I can so I'm doing that over 2 years part time and working for the local council in education and doing cover lessons in the mean time so my workload is lower but so is my salary so a less expensive to keep car was needed and I can always earn the money back to get back into a car like that in the future.

I have a confession, that Volvo nearly ended up being an A6 allroad but I decided at the last second to stay loyal and I bought the XC. This time the budget was £2500 max and I was willing to consider anything. I ideally wanted a convertible and I've already had a Volvo C70 so I looked at a Saab 9-3 (always liked the look of them) but on my desperate Auto Trader search I stumbled on an A4 Cabriolet in dreadful nick and with a broken roof and I thought they hold on to their value well, no surprise, but then I clicked over to the next page and I found this...

A 2003 A4 Cabriolet 1.8T 163ps with 143,000 miles and a whole host of new parts fitted recently including a new clutch, new turbo, new radiator, new tyres on the front and freshly gassed air conditioning. I decided to make the near 3 hour journey to see it and placed my deposit yesterday. I'm going back to pick it up Sunday and am ready to press it into service as my daily after the wedding. It needs a few things, the headlights need a wet sand and a polish and the projectors need removing to be cleaned, some of the buttons need replacing (ESP and roof button badly need changing) and the rear seats are covered in pink highlighter pen, the front seats are very dry and the bolster needs re colouring, oh and the missing centre cap that's in the pictures but not on the car anymore!! Put my plate on it and it'll look quite tidy then.

Plans for now are to do those buttons and give it a thorough detail and assess the paint properly, will probably strip all the filler polish off it and coat it in 50 cal cover up glaze with a decent wax for the summer and start machining it toward the end of the summer hols when I have more time and won't be using it!!

Also if anyone in North Wales has a VAG-COM they can use to code in cruise control for me for a fee I'd be very grateful

That's it until Sunday when I go get it and I'll have a better idea of what it's like then, fingers crossed my son's new car seat fits in the back OK!!!
