Aftermarket Vs. OEM Turbos

Aftermarket Vs. OEM Turbos
So after wanting an Audi since being a teenager I finally bought a used '04 Allroad with only 100k. In less than 30 days from purchase I was lucky enough to blow the driver's side turbo.
Looking at the cost between OEM and Aftermarket turbos I have to wonder, is there a legitimate downside to going with aftermarket? The price difference is rather substantial so I'm thinking that unless there's some insane detractor it would be a more economical fix for the time being.
Also, does anyone have a particular aftermarket turbo company that they like or have had success with? Turbo charger pros has the pair at $995.
Thoughts?

First of all, aftermarket parts are legitimate. There are a great number of success manufactures good at making turbo on eBay, you should check there. Maxspeedingrods is one of them, and it has owned a professional website High Performance Racing Parts | Engine Parts : Turbocharger, Connecting Rods, Coilovers - Maxspeedingrods.co.uk

I just bought a used 04 allroad with 100,000 miles and come to find out the turbo is going out. The previous owner mentioned it but then retracted it when I found a large hose unconnected front driver side. He said that that must have been the problem. After owning the car for 3 weeks I noticed a loud, high pitched whining and took it to O reillys and they said it must be the turbo. I connected the dots and now realize it is the turbo. But there is still substantial power when the turbo kicks in, I just have to deal with the loud pitched sound when there is no load on the engine. Is it better to rebuild, or to buy new? Please advise.

That is a tough choice. New turbos will generally come with a warranty, primarily if installed by a professional. Rebuilt turbos might not be warranted depending on the shop who rebuilds them.
Whatever you do, don't buy cheap turbos off Ebay. They're likely to not last. At that point you're better off rebuilding your current turbos, if they are in rebuildable condition.
