Default Advice on what 2000-2002 S4 to get what to look for

Hey people!
New forum user here! I specifically came to ask the following: I'm looking for a 2000-2002 imola or nogaro S4 and because of the twin turbos that have certain lifespan would like to ask for advice on what to look out for when getting the S4.
FIrst of all is anything above 75K miles worth buying, is there a chance the turbos will still hav a lot of life in them?
Also advice on what to look out for when I go test drive an S4. Sound from the turbos?
If the turbos die on me I hear it's about $2K to put in K04s for example?

Any advice to an S4 novice is MUCH appreciated, people!!!

Thanks a bunch!

Cheers ,

Julian

Bando/Julian,

You prolly should've popsted this in the S4 section, since that's what you're inquiring about. As far as teh Turbo's go, the "life" of a Turbo is dependent upon how it treated DURING that life. Improper cool-down will lead to "coaked" bearings, which wil prematurely age ANY Turbo. Reducing it's lifespan by half, or more, LONG before it's time. Of course, there's no way you can KNOW/TELL without dismanteling the beasties and eyeballing them. As far as I know they give off no particular sound, having been misused during their functional life, aside from teh loud BANG they give off as they grenade their housing... Maybe someone else has some insight.

Admin/Mod, maybe move this to teh S4 section, so our *new* frined can get the proper exposure for his question...

Yeah the turbo's usually won't make noise until they are toast. Not necessarily a bang... but if the bearings are shot you'll have the dentist drill screaming noise... something I'm sure would raise alarm, if you heard it in a test drive.
Sport packages are cool... it'd be nice to get that. And don't forget about laser red... just as hot as Nagaro or Imola, if you ask me!
And yeah... 2K won't get you K04's dude. Not by a long shot. Labour alone is like 15-20 hours. I think some place has the install on sale a while back for like 800 bucks, and parts aren't cheap. check out renn-art.com or goapr.com

Oh, and if you're looking for tiptronic, K04 will mean that you'll want to upgrade your transmission... I think that site is level10.com or something like that.
