2000 B5 S4 issues...
Hello, I purchased an Automatic 2000 B5 S4 yesterday with 95K mi and my wife and are thouroughly enjoying the new baby in the family... :-)
I would like to run a couple of things by you all:
1. I noticed that when was moving down a crowded street today, probably somewhere between 15-30mi/hr the car kinda had a slight jump or a very soft jerk...as in it didnt move smoothly-now this was so slight that only I noticed it while driving the car. This happened once today. I havent noticed it since however I mostly did highway driving today. Highway driving is very smooth and in general it appears to be extremely comfortable to drive however I'm slightly concerned about what I'm guessing to be a clutch issue at slow speeds? The car has awesome acceleration and throttle response at high speeds.
2. Also, another thing - when I turn a sharp left I notice that the car kinda slips - it may just be me and the fact that it rained like crazy and hence the road is slippery or the tires are lacking tread but has anyone experienced anything like this before? I dont find this when I do a sharp right. Also, when I turn the steering wheel when the car is still, I hear the links or rack and pinion or whatever it is turn...is that normal to hear?
The carfax had a clean title and regular services so I think its in great condition.
Thank you!

1. I bet you are on the original trans fluid, you might want to get it flushed. You may also have bad, motor, trans, or snub mounts.
2. some noise is normal, like the car is grabbing for traction. The other noise, might be a bad TRE, or suspension arms, my bet they are shot.

Well i have never felt any such thing in my car but i would have to say that getting an automatic S4 is a crime! but if you cant pinpoint the problem def take it to a performance shop or somthing because one thing wrong in an S4 may cause other problems, and in a 2000 S4 you will already have enough problems.

I have an auto s4. My tranny was jerking/slamming around in 1-2 gear (sounded like a dull thud, then the car would shoot forward) Well, a week and a half ago I was driving home and it jerked hard, then the transmission wouldn't shift at all in manual mode and delayed shifts in tip (luckily I was near the dealership so I dropped it off) Anyway, to make a long story short, my transmission had some heavy damage done to it (no clue how, they said the fluid was bad) and I ended up with a new transmission courtesy of warranty. May wanna get the tranny checked.

Ok I have pin pointed the problem after driving my car today so more...
When I let go of accelerator say at 25mph and let the car coast....until exactly 20mph I see this behaviour. Again, it is an extremely soft jerk, so soft that you need to pay attention however it definately exists.
I'm taking the car to an audi mechanic this week to get the Timing belt, water pump etc replaced (getting quoted $1500 for the service) so maybe I can get him to check this up as well...and I'll also check on replacing the TRE, if that is the problem...and I probably would want to replace both Tie rod ends on each side...
Thank you.
