signs of turbo failure?
I like many others im sure, spend many sleepless nights wondering when their turbos are going to go. So I was wondering What are some sure signs that your turbos are going or gone.
I kinda think mine are going BTW because I think I have the "sound"(or me being a paranoid pansy) and sometimes I have a wierd smell like my parking break is still on.

RE: signs of turbo failure?
search search search search please.
theres no way to tell when they are going to blow. The turbos (often passenger side) get very noisy as their life comes to an end. And when they are blown you will know it. Search though theres many may many many in depth explinations around.

"How long will my turbos last.
Till they blow. There is no way to tell. Boost leaks, long oil change intervals, bad DV's, lots of short trips, getting to the boost when cold, will all help kill em"

As AudiSportB5S4 eloquently put on Audizine: "Dentist drill means dying turbos. Look, if you have to ask if you have the dentist drill, YOU DON'T HAVE IT! It sounds like 1000 screaming babies in your engine bay. Siren noise also means dying turbos."
So there you go. Sadly, many people are excessively paranoid about the turbos failing. They are gonna fail when they feel like failing. As long as you warm them up and cool them down, as you're supposed to, then there isn't much else you can do to prevent them from failing at some point. You didn't state how many miles you have on your car/turbos, but there ARE S4s out there with stock turbos that have passed 100,000 miles and don't have problems.
