I am in the mood for a car purchase and I wanted to hear about the relibility of an A3. So far on my other car forum very few say it can be and most say no.
Figured I might as well ask an adui forum.

Not sure what your other forum is, but I have a 2006 that has had no mechanical issues. The only problems I have had are related to peeling paint on the window buttons, the screen that covers the open sky slipping off its hook, and the paint on the plastic piece that goes between the front and back door.
My issues have all been fixed by Audi with no questions asked. It's great fun to drive.
http://www.truedelta.com/ is a site where users rate their cars for reliability. Look at the A4 too as it uses the same components as the A3 and there is a bigger pool of them. Personally the newer Audis 2006 have a good reputation, previous years not so much.
Personally my 2007 A3 had the AC fail but was fixed under warranty. After 35,000 miles that and a couple of minor trim issues is it.
3 Audi's in a row,,, 3 of em being a pain in my backside lol. The current ones a 2005 A3 3.2 Quattro which i'm having running headaches with.
I will say though other than the as yet un-diagnosed engine gremlin the rest of the car is faultless
