I needed this for the head gasket replacement job on my 99 1.8tqm B5 A4. Its for those super long head bolt studs. You NEED this for them. It was a PITA and I couldnt have done it without this socket.
Now that I no longer own an A4 I dont need this $30 socket! http://www.zdmak.com/headbolt-tool.asp this is where I got it from- the cheapest place I could find on the internet for this tool.
