Default Anyone replace their own Torque Converter?

I have the dreaded 17125 code. Had it for the past year, almost. Can't get an inspection sticker with it. Nice. Audi sux.

This is a very expensive job. Has anyone attempted this themselves?

My biggest worry, other than it's a ton of work, is that every time I do anything on this car I discover - at 5:15pm - that I'm missing some ridiculous specialty tool. If I were to rip my car apart for this - and my timing belt - I can see that adding days to the project.

Well I brought it a new place. The only thing that improved was the estimate. Down from $2,350 to around $1,800.

I can't get my inspection sticker with the trouble code. I am going to try to cheat the system to buy me time, but I doubt it will work.

I had them clear the code. I'll drive only in sport mode for a few days, or a week and then try to get the sticker - IF the light doesn't come back on. The theory is that sport mode will lock out the converter, or something like that, possibly side-stepping the normal functionality where the monitor is detecting the failure.
