Default what the heck is this?

i've owned this car almost a whole year now and i've never noticed this. i thought it was a speaker at first but its only on the driver side...

Maybe it has something to do with the alarm system. I always thought it was part of the speaker.

yea the hook up in the armrest (cat5) is now my ipod hook up since i wasnt using it and tired of the ipod tools that use a signal to the stereo now its there at all times hidden and out of my way.
