The main difference between different bypass valves is the amount of force it takes to depress the spring that reroutes the boost pressure back to the intake.
Not sure about the whistle, but the factory valve releases sooner than the uprgrades do. Essentially, it dumps the extra boost when you shift gears or let off the accelerator or when the computer sees the RPM reach the spec limit. A chip will change that, but if you leave the factory by-pass valve on there it will still release at the same pressure regardless of which chip or turbo you have. I'm not sure where the factory valve pops, but if you can delay when that happens you can maintain your boost longer.

........now would a new bypass valve give me that more whistle and purge im looking for? or would i need more boost for that from say a chip?
I'm not sure if you're referring to the "whine" of the turbos when they spool up or the "psshhhht" sound of a BOV. If you want to hear more of the turbo, it won't matter what valve you add.

Yeah, when I replaced the valve it made no difference. When I got it chipped it did, and the K-04 sounds different than the K-03 for sure. I guess you could modify the intake air box if you really want the spool up to sound louder.
