Default RE: 1.8T Common Troubleshooting Guide

hi, sorry but i`m a newbie from england and u guys look pretty clued up to me, so I was wondering if u could help me with a little problem.

I have a bog standard 2002 audi a4 1.8T with a tiptronic gearbox and just recently as i`ve been driving it, it seems to have developed a `jerky, stuttering` gearchange. Even cruising along the motorway in 6th gear, you can feel a slight stuttering through the accelerator.

Hope someone can help me, as i`m worried it`s going to be expensive.

I already forked out over £600 for a new oil pump to be fitted at a major audi dealer, after only 18,000 miles of driving. (yearly serviced at same major audi dealer) the car was 2 months outside its 3 year warranty but audi uk weren`t interested.

I believe u guys get a 8 year warranty, is that true?

Another one to the list.

Headlight/ turn signal switch. If both headlights go out along with the front and rear fogs and its not the fuses, it is the whole switch. Replacement requires the removal of the airbag/ steering wheel. The new switch is 178 dollars before tax, I had my private mechanic do the work in about an hour, cost me 60 dollars in labor, from what I have heard the dealer charges about 350-400 for this repair. The dealer from which I have bought the switch told me this is a common problem on the 98.5, the new switch looks the same, but feels higher quality, when the turn signal is cancelled after a turn the clicks are much much quieter, the plastic on the switches feels higher quality.

I think we can add the AC compressor to that list, seems to be a common problem.
To further elaborate on to this.

AC Compressor

When the AC is turned on at any level the car will make a metal clacking noise, this is the AC compressor making noise. Means it is on its way out and may require replacement. My mechanic has been able to rid of the noise whenever the ac is turned on by tightening everything. I have read of repair costs from 250-400 dollars. I have also read numerous thread mentioning the AC pulley / AC clutch potentially causing the noise
