Default 1.8T VS 2.8

Just thought I'd make a 1.8t vs 2.8 sticky so noobs will be less likely to post about it, as we have been seeing so frequently.

Here are a couple good links I found by using the search for reference. If anyone else finds any other different 1.8t vs 2.8 threads, please paste the shortcut(s) in here and keep the noob flaming to a minimum.

Default RE: 1.8T VS 2.8

Thanks for the links. I've read the "A4 for noobs" thread before and it has lots of good info. They didn't really get much into the 3.0 from a maintanence perspective though, which is what I'm really after. I know it will be more trouble-free because it doesn't have a turbo, but it still needs parts here and there. The 1.8T looked pretty easy to wrench on (O2 sensor was right up front, plugs, coils, etc. were all in plain view, etc). The 3.0 is intimidating looking and if it going to be a PIA to replace parts and cost a fortune at the dealer, it may not be the best choice. I should add that I have a VAG-COM and experience in the VW world (I have a Jetta 2.0T and a Jetta 2.slow) plus lots of experience wrenching onthe 2 BMWs I've had.

One other question: how are parts like the exhaust systems and manual transmissionson these cars? Do they hold up well? Thanks!
