I was told when I got my car in January that I had 1 year or 12,000 miles to decide if I wannted to by the $550 service plan. If they told you you had to get it right when you bought the car I would just call and double check about it because I was told I could wait by two different dealers.
Thats correct. If you don't elect to buy the $550 service plan, you can buy it up to 1 year later or as you say 12,000 miles. But sales staff will caution you that Audi might raise the price of this plan in the future and its best not to delay your decision too long.

Default RE: New Audi branded extended warranty - "Pure Protection"

Ok, so I got the maintenance plan from Audi on my new A3. I wasn't going to, I prefer doing my own maintenance, but they threw it in for free to get the deal done by the end of May, trying to make their numbers I suppose. The thing I am concerned about is modding the car and having the service guy make a note of it. I'd prefer not to void my warranty. Can I simply avoid this by doing maintenance at one dealer and warranty repairs at a different dealer? Or can dealer A pull up maintenance notes from dealer B? Thanks!

Default RE: New Audi branded extended warranty - "Pure Protection"

Sorry I'm so late to this discussion, but I'm going to be buying a new A3 within a couple of weeks, and I'm curious about how much people are paying for the Audi Pure Protection (extended warranty) package.

I notice the original poster said it costs $3,600 for seven years and 100,000 miles. First, am I right to assume that this is seven years and 100,000 miles after the original warranty expires?

Second, I have the brochure for this Pure Protection plan, and it lists five different levels of protection, in increasing order of coverage:[ul][*] Powertrain[*] Silver[*] Gold[*] Gold Plus[*] Platinum[/ul]Is there a standard fee for all five of these? If so, what is it, and if not what are people paying, "in the wild", for these?

Thanks for your help.

Nope. Usually warranties include the factory warranty. This was the case when I bought my old 03 Avalanche and opted for a 80k mi warranty. The 80k mi is for the car from the day you bought it, not 80k after ur factory warranty expires.

So in your case, the 7yr/100k mi warranty covers up to 3-4 years after factory warranty expires or up to 100k mi. I forgot what our factory a3 warranty terms were- 3/36 or 4/48, i forget

When I bought my 07 A4 Avant, I paid $550 for the Audi Care. They had a couponin the paper for free AudiCare but the damned salesman did not tell me about it and I found out on my own at home. I called them to see if they could do anything even free rubber floor mats but the salesman did not really care. He had his sale.

I do hope that the 06 maintenance is transferable. I am going to pick up my used 06 A3 next Friday.

Thats [sm=bs.gif]

Your Audi dealer really sucks ass! I had made an end of the month awesome deal and had them throw in a ton of free stuff, we made the deal and I left. It was a couple days later that I realized I didn't get any of the paint protection certificates and info for coverage. I went back a few days later, the sales manager recognized me and asked how I liked my Audi. I told him about the paint protection and he said that he remembered we had that as part of the deal. He immediately got me into the finance manager's office, and she is totally f^cking HOT, oh, and she gave me all of the paperwork and stuff I needed. Quick and easy. That's how it should be. Sorry that you got the lame ass dealership.

Cheers!

Slightly more data for those who may be interested.

The price for the standard care package, which was $0 in '06 and $550 in '07, has been raised again in '08 to $590.

A Colorado Audi dealer claims to carry only the highest, platinum level of the "Audi Pure Protection" extended warranty program, and he quoted me the following prices:

6yr/60k $2176
6yr/72k $2625
6yr/100k $3425
7yr/70k $2736
7yr/100k $3834

They tried that BS on me too. Imagine what you could fix with an extra $3k - $4k, earning interest over a 4 year period? Definitely not worth it IMO.

Cheers!

Small update. "Invoice" for the standard care package in '08 is apparently $505, according to one Colorado dealer.

A different Colorado dealer is selling the Platinum plan for significantly cheaper:

7yr/70k $1,995
7yr/100K $2,995

Yet a third Colorado dealer claims not to sell this extended warranty package at all. Curiouser and curiouser...
