Default i3uddha's 2001 S4 Air Box Mod by JETSPEED, pics incl.

Well, i3uddha and i were a little board and feeling creative so we thought why not make the turbo's more audiable and gain a few HP for free....[sm=goodidea.gif] .....the car is already pushing 16lbs of boost.... so the turbo's are just dying to be heard!!!








Here i3uddha(aka Jason) applies the silicone glue for the screen....wouldn't want to suck
up any small animals with this beast [sm=lildevil.gif]

...and here you can see all ofour "poor mans cold air intake" holes are placed out of the way from
hight heat areas


-well, after the test drive i'd say it was definetly a good mod... the car seems a little more responsive... the turbo's are
defenetly louder and top speed probably just went up a few mph

LOL, this is called the "Darintake". It's been around for years! I have never seen anyone cut the fender liner holes. All they are going to due is throw crap into the airbox. There will be 0 airflow there when the car is moving. Air moves from High pressure to Low pressure, the wheel well is a low pressure zone. So you might have actually made the aibox less efficient, by putting the low pressure zone under the airbox.

If you have a Vag-Com go & do some 003 logs with the fender open & closed, see what one has higher g/s on the MAF.

well.... we didn't really modify the intake for better air flow.... we wanted the turbo's to be more audiable and also have less restriction in the intake.... plus weput on the screen so nothing could enter the air box.... -and the turbo's are definetly louder

I'm positive my A$$ dyno isnt as accurate as performing some logs w/ the VAG-com...
but I defnitely can hear those K03's sp00oooolin' now...
**oh correction to the title - Its a 2000 not a 2001


there are allready vents in the fender liner - not sure how adding more would change anything.. but i defenitely would be interested to see if there were any losses....
(which so far I havent noticed anything - slight increase in throttle response - but than again thats the A$$ dyno for you )

Darintake mod has been around for awhile - Jet wasnt taking credit for creating the idea...
just for doing the mod - the man is defenitely skilled when it comes to wrenching...
& much Props for helping out a fellow AF member


** as most of us know - there really arent much benefits / gains (at my current setup)
to aftermarket intake systems - DIY CAI / RAM - fabricated cone filters etc. etc. etc.
theres been so many threads on replacing the stockairbox just last year
we were all following socals4's attempts at a new intake... complete
w/ measuring intake temperature b-4 & after the MAF etc. etc etc.

the end results have always been that the AUDI engineers have made a great
system from the factory - & buying aftermarket CAI *ahem hot air intakes*
really arent worth the $$$..& the cheapest / best / cost efficent way
at gains have been the darintake...

Turbo noise = Downpipes! Then you can really hear them spool up.

The holes in the fender are for the SMIC, and not the airbox. I just know from replacing my IC's that a lot of road crap gets thrown up in that area. Even with the screen, you're going to see a lot more crud on the airfilter, so just keep an eye on it.

My point about all the holes, is there is not longer a "catcher" for the air, it can just pass threw & make it harder for the intake.

almost like a tunnel channeling the air right?
good point - it doesnt "appear" to be working harder...
but i really cant verify that unless we VAG-Com... [&o]
wouldnt that somehow cause a CEL - if it was getting less airflow
& have to comepensate?

as for debris - I'll defenitely crack open the airbox this weekend see if its noticeably different..
I know the way to go is ASP DP's....
Its just defenitely not in the budget now...
on that note - i have a question re: "piggie pipes"

No it will not throw a cel. It's just going to make it a little harder to suck in air when the car is moving. The faster you go, the harder it will become due to the pressure differential in the upper & lower airbox.
