Default RE: HR Springs Choice?

why would putting HR springs or other lowering springs reduce the life of the shocks? What i'm assuming here is that the S-line and Premium have the same shocks, just different springs, so wouldn't i just make mine a "kinda" of S-line but just putting in new springs?
There is a place that will do springs for just 400 installed, or another place that would do springs and shocks for 1K, that 600 difference would pay for the APR chip

Well, I'm just a Chef and not an engineer, but it does put more stress on the shocks/struts and definitely wears them out much faster. I've been told that the shocks/struts would need replacing within about 20k miles. Everyone seems to say the same thing, and I was just waiting for Stryker to come on with a true life testimonial.

Cheers!

Here i'm, Hey mark it is amazing what you can learn from a chef?
Spot on with the suggestions. If you go H&R sport springs you stress your stock shocks to where they wear so quick its not even funny i have about 11k miles on mine and i'm rubbing in the rear of the car. My advice is go with the cup kit or coilovers, to where you wont have to install new shocks in a year. About the rear sway bar, if your not going to track your car dont bother with that mod spend it else where lowereing the car helps a little with dropping the center of gravity and roll.

Thank god CEC just opened there location here in coral gables, miami now your talking euro tuner shop these boys are badd arse!! Anyway good luck just remember you get what you pay for?

I'm going with HnR + Koni FSD (shopping for a good price atm). I want comfort and performance. For me, I know I'm too lazy to adjust coilovers even if I get the KW V3, so might as well save some $..
I like the idea of the FSD's as well. Changing out the suspension is just a big chunk of change though [:'(]

Chef,

BTW CEC headquarters is right there in LA. They have a tuning shop... so whenever you are ready to put on that oettinger body kit..............

No Oetty kit for me. I'll probably as look stock, unless I can convince them on the free Osir kit. Now that is NICE!!! Imagine the carbon fiber hood painted on the sides, but black in the middle with the black Open Sky and the slit front quarter panels. NICE!!!

If you do only the springs, then you'll be replacing the shocks/struts after about 20k miles. I would suggest getting at least the cups, if not the coilovers. If you spend the money to do the install, then you might as well only do it once. BTW, the coilovers would last you the life of the car. You need to figure out on which end you want to spend your money.
Cheers!
Can I ask a stupid question... Why should coilovers last the life time of the car as apposed to shocks and springs which are as you said 20k miles. Coilovers are just shocks and springs in one convenient package. So what makes their expected life time so different?

I went with the touring cup kit h&r the reason it drops the car the least amount, since i was experiencing rubbing priori had to take that in consideration.(running 19's) The key to this mod is that these will minimize the travel, i also added LED frt bumper lights from the A6 daytime running, and smoke rear tail lights, paint not film. I'm going on vacation for a week as soon as i come back i will pick her up from the tuner shop and post pics, stay tuned the LED's should be real nice if all goes as planned?[8D]

Quadric, the shocks/struts will wear out within 20k miles if you just change the springs. The stock set-up will last longer, but definitely not the life of the car. The coilovers will eventually wear out, it will just take a very very long time before that happens.

Cheers!
