Default Ashtray Delete DIY w/Pics

I did mine this weekend and am VERY happy with it. I took pics durring the process but the instructions that one of my buddies posted on his blog are much better, they're what I followed to do mine.

And the thread he posted about using the OEM LED can be found here:

very nice! I remember there being a DIY post that changes the ashtray to an I pod mount for the audi ipod integration.I think I may end up doing that one if I could only find that post...

Hey, just installed the ashtray delete yesterday and it is by far THE BEST MOD I have ever done. I was worried that I would miss the nice aluminum ashtray or that the shifter area would look goofy all by itself in the middle of the cockpit but boy was I wrong! The interior looks better IMO and the tray is sooooo deep and useful! What was Audi thinking using that stupid ashtray in the first place! What a waste of space!

Now if we could only figure out a classy way of getting a 12v adapter closer to the dash. Only having one under the arm rest makes it a bit hard for some devices like a radar detector. I plan on hard-wiring mine, but that's not yet done.

The only thing I used the ashtray for was change, and it actually worked really well for it. Now I use the new bigger space for change and my garage opener. The chagne kinda just slides aorund in there but it's not loud since it's rubberized. I really wish there was a better place for change, what do other people use to hold theirs?

I'd love to do this, but I have a sneaking suspicion I'd screw (or unscrew)something up or cause something else to work loose. Every time I've done something like this, something doesn't fit or is wobbly when I finish.

As for change, I just use my pocket or the card holder above the stereo.
