Engine oil leak 2.7T - 7/20/2005 9:38:00 AM

I recently purchased an 01 2.7T A6 with less then 48K miles and put around 500 miles on it since purchase. It seems that engine is leaking oil, to the point that I can smell burned oil after I drove the car for more that 15-20 minutes. I took it to a local mechanic but he could not locate the leak, although the bottom of the engine looks slightly wet. He claims it is somewhere higher in the engine compartment and may require removal of the engine. Did anyone experience this problem? Could this be leaking turbos? I would appreciate the advice since I don’t necessarily like the idea of spending $$$$ if this is can be easily fixed.

Thanks,
Albert

Mine is also leaking fluid - - Going 2 have it checked out Saturday. I will let u know.
I did go to a shop and they said the same thing they would have to remove a bunch of parts and maybe the engine to find it. But Im praying that is NOT the case.

I know this reply is a year late but I just bought an A6 2.7T with an oil leak. The (non Audi) dealer is going to cover the cost of repairs (at an Audi Dealer) but from when I talked to the Audi service tech, he seemed to know right away what it was - he said cam seals and valve cover gasket. There's also a TSB about a turbocharger leak. Estimated cost $1000 or so. I am taking the car in next week to have the work done, will post here with itemized bill when I get it, as I am sure others are curious about it. Car has 61K miles.

It is interesting that the previous owner didnt have this work done because they bought it as a certified pre-owned vehicle. Oh well, maybe just didnt want to deal with it. How many others have had this problem, does it happen on *all* 2001's?

I have a 2002 2.7T A6 and have a strong burning oil smell from my car. I've only had it 2 months. I'm planning on taking mine in next week.

Let us know what happens!
Cheers

my leak ended up being my cam tensioner seals, and one cam seal behind my exhaust cam sprocket in the timing belt area. I actually had a bunch of oil leak down the face of the motor, hit the a/c compressor then collect at the bellypan and lower oil pan...
