Default 01 a6 4.2 mods

Wher should i look for any type of mods for a 4.2L A6, if any. Roughly whats it gonna cost me?

I have the same car. I'm just bought it and am looking for the same thing. I would like to find some mods as well. Let me know when you find something.

you can mod a 4.2, but i plan on keeping mine very simple because it's a very well put together car already. i only have 19s ($2000) and XM ($300) so far, but i plan to:

1.) add eibach prokit sport suspension giving it a 1.2 inch drop in back and front (any other springs go lower than the 1.2") ($230-$300)
2.) rs6 lip spoiler ($250-$300)
3.) INT cold air intake ($150-$200)
4.) s6 top and bottom grill ($400)
5.) uprage to 02-04 tails ($180-$250)

that's all i'm doing to mine. you could:

1.)GIAC chip. that'll allow your tiptronic not to auto shift out of first ($350-$400)
2.)DIY: eliminate the amber out of the head lights (FREE)
3.)change bumper for dual exsaust and tips ($500-$600)

your biggest challange will probably be finding a good set of wheels and tires. i will recommend my tire size if you go with 19s (see sig) i wouldn't suggest you get anything bigger than 19s.

not many wheels fit the 4.2 b/c brake callipers are so big. i would suggest looking at rs6 wheels, mercedes and some porche wheels.

just remember there is no need to over do it with this beautiful creature.

hey cary12 i posted for you, i will cut and paste it for you and the others.

sweet whip, i have the same black on black. for the outside i have or you could do chrome mirrors, air induction kit for the lower front bumber and shorter sport springs. as for the rear bumper i have the supersprint exhaust and when it gets installed the guys should be able to cut it to fit. if you want round instead of oval tips just get a an 02 rear bumper there pretty cheap. wheels 18s are great and stick with the 255 series tires. besides the exhaust the next best and 2nd least expencive mod was the upsolute chip. dont be fooled by the idiots that say you cant get ANY hp gains with a chip. i have a whole list of stuff and as for today im finally getting my rns-e navi installed. depends on where you live "i live in baltimore Md" theres a show in oc md in september www.h2ointernational.com if you want to see it up close and get some ideas, or thers a few pict on audiworld waterfest wrap up photos. if you want more just post......

I am planning on purchasing a 2000-2001 A6 2.7T or 4.2. I am looking at 2 tonight: a 2001 2.7T 6-speed with 56K miles, and a 2000 4.2L with 40K miles. Not sure if the 4.2L has the sport package though.

Anyway, I am leaning towards the 4.2 (have two kids and wife who doesn't drive stick shift), and would like to know how 4.2 can be modified (performance-wise). I've seen all the posts on GIAC chips (engine and tranny), upsolute chip, H&R shocks and coilovers, K&N filters, and exhausts. I see things like "19hp gain", "50hp+ gain", but I can't find a single post with some dyno information. I'd just like to know what the real impact of each mod is. Things like better 0-60 acceleration, more mid-range tourge, less body roll, etc. Oh, and I'd like to see the numbers: if acceleration is improved, 0-60 time goes down from 6.8 seconds to what? I tried looking at audiworld.com forums, but those forums are just a pain to use (who the heck designed the software?!).

I know, I know, if I want to mod the car, I should buy the 2.7t 6-speed, the 4.2 is not a tuner's car. And I may just do that. But while I am deciding, it would be useful to get the info on the 4.2. Any help would be appreciated.

from one family man to another (w/ 2 kids, 1 wife, and 0 time).........go with the "4dot" (4.2); pleanty of horses, less is likely to go wrong, and the body has nicer lines. you will thank yourself later
