Hi,
I just bought a 00 A6 Avant. Silver with Black interior. The seller said it had a Bose Symphony system, however I do not see the word Bose printed anywhere. The four large speaker grills on the doors all have a spot where a sticker/label was removed and there is a sub woofer in the right rear compartment. My question is, is there an easy way to tell if this is a bose or just a standard system?

I have an 04 A6 2.7T and when I turn on the car the stereo lights up and says BOSE on the face plate. Hope that helps.

Also you can check the amplifier system. I own a 97 A6 and the amplifier is located in the trunk under the rearwishield area. Usually you can also see the rear winshield speakers and there should be some label somewhere indicating their brand. I know that the rear speakers' cover on mine does say Audi Bose.

Mine is an Avant, soI have no easy access to the rear speakers or amp. Does your 97 say BOSE on the display when you power it up?

yeah, if radio face doesn't read 'BOSE' in when you turn it on, then it isn't.

Yeah mine does say BOSE when I start it up. Mine is not the Symphony, it's the Delta series (older ones).

Correct me if I'm wrong, but Bose sound quality shuold be easily distinguishable in comparison to a regular sound system. I never had any exposure to Bose and I used to think they were too overpriced. But when I compare the sound quality of Bose to anything else I've listened to, it's just a different league!

Yeah there should be bose written all over the place. Kianoosh was talking about in the back you should have two access panels on either side of your rear hatch (avant) They are in the side panel of carpet. They have little push down handles. You push down, they come open, one side has space for your tools and stuff, the other side has your washer fluid and 3 speakers and an amp if you are bose. And they will say bose on them. I think the little hatches say bose on the handles too. (My car is a lot older) Maybe these little hatches are specific to the bose system (I would think you should have one for your rear washer still though)

Thanks for the help. It's definately not the Bose, I contacted the seller he said it was an honest mistake in his listing, and he is refunding me $500. I can't believe it. I paid $11975 for a 2000 A6 Avant in great condition with 60K. I drove the car from Boston to NJ and it runs beautifully. I feel like I got a great deal.

What's the engine size? If I were you, I'd ask for more money!!! :D You definitely wanna have some good system for that beast!

It's a 2.8. The stereo system is ok, I unlocked the hidden settings and tweeked it a bit. I am having trouble with my rear door ash trays rattling from the sub. I'm happy with the deal, other than the stereo, the car was better than he described it. Do you think my local Audi dealer will provide me with the service history on the car? I want to know if it had the 50K service done.

I'm not sure. I'd give it a try though...
