Default hello from a former m3 driver

My s4 (a 2001) had a front licence plate, i live in nc and want to take the front plate holder off, however their are 4 3/4 inch holes in the bumper cover behind the licence plate cover. Local dealer said I have to replace the entier bumper cover at $450.00 plus paint and labor! The section the licence plate holder attaches to seem's to be a seperate piece......please help!

Welcome to the forum silvers4!

This is a great site. We keep the dialogue friendly and the attitude positive. The info is well received by all and we are here to help anyone with the need. I hope you find it to your liking as well.

If you're not familiar with this forum, please click the START HERE! link. There you will find a forum vocab list, an Audi forum terminology list and an Audi lexicon list. They should be very helpful to you if you're not familiar with the jargon.

Please feel free to ask any question, but double check the archives first. Many questions have been archived and, quite often, the answers are comprehensive.

You are correct! There is a separate part - a plastic strip - that fits across the bumper. It is a cosmetic cover designed to cover the plate holes and hardware. It can be fopund at a dealer or at aftermarket parts vendors, too.

Hmmm.. are there any pics of that? I was thinking about removing mine as well, but I was gonna go the painted plastic bolts (round top) as a temporary measure till I had them filled and painted.

Oh, and welcome in silvers4

I have the same problem with my 2004 S4, it looks like there is a smaller plate that could be replace rather than the whole bumper, but I haven't looked into it yet...

Welcome! this is a great site for anything audi

Hey, welcome to the forums! Hope you find this site useful and entertaining. Sounds like a nice ride. Do you plan on modifying anything soon? You could always have the holes filled and then get your existing bumper repainted. That cost me about $350.00 at the dealer a few years back.
