Most Recent Car & Driver - RS4 $80k

Good comp on RS4 vs. M3 and C55 (or E55 - I forgot). They're crazy about the $80k, right? I was expecting $65k - $70k range.

I heard at my audi dealer on friday the base is gonna be in the $76K range, with some options, dest. charge, gas guzzler taxes, etc. it will be closer to 80 though.

i think since the rs6 are still holding their values quite well, Audi may be more inclined to ask more than we're expecting. I'm sure they're aware that there are plenty of (weatlhy) buyers ready to pounce when the rs4 becomes available.

From everything I have read so far, it sounds like a fantastic car....but at $80k, I think it is really overpriced, for the performance gains over the S4.

Audi claims 0-60 in 5.3 for the S4 and 4.8 for the RS4....that is a pretty penny to pay for such a small performance gain. I know there are other enhancements and improvements as well that go into the price.

If you look at hp/$$$ the S4 is about $148/hp and the RS4 will be $190/hp....lets hope Audi sharpens their pencils a bit!

Most Audi's are underpowered untill modded considering the hefty price of an Audi.
I doubt the only improvement is 80HP over the S4 ... and the 0-60 comparo.. well Audi's have never been great in that segment . Manufactures also underate these times aswell. Im sure 4.5 would be attainable with a good driver.
It will also have the 60/40 torsen Quattro... not to mention numerous other goodies.

Car and driver would lie....In the July issue it said to expect it around 56,000 but then just two short months later 80,000!!!!!! Damn somebody seriously made a mistake

I talked to our local Audi dealer and yes, it will be $76K base + options. I don't care how good of car it is, Audi completely missed the market segment with that price. They are now closer to new M5 in price, big mistake!

Seems the factory did understate the b6 b7 s4's 0-60.. if car and driver is accurate:

http://64.233.161.104/search?q=cache...+0-60+S4&hl=en

5.1 vs 5.3 so perhaps indeed the Rs4 will be a bit better than 4.8

somoene tell me why the factory understates the 0-60?

And I agree with everyones opinion about the pricing on this car.. . I think its silly if it indeed is 80 K with tax figured in..

the front gril i think is hideous

They generally underestimate to keep from being sued or starting major complaints by owners. Due to the fact that a mass produced vehicle can have different tolerences and therefore no 2 cars are going to perform 100% identical. Wouldn't you rather have more than you expected or less. If you had less then you would feel ripped off. In 1999 Ford ran into this problem with the "320 horsepower" Cobra Mustang. They had to eventually recall all the Cobra's after owners were getting them dynoed and their numbers were way too low. They ended up replacing the exhaust system and intake system to get to the "320 horsepower". That is why there were no 2000 Cobra Mustangs, they were too busy fixing the 99s.
