Dark Headlight Housings, '01 2.7T
I've been looking around for dark headlight housings for my '01 2.7T A6, but nobody seems to make them... Tons of them for A4's, none for the A6. I've seen a couple of pictures of A6's with dark housings, but they we're probably a custom modification.
Anyone know where I could find some for my car? I really like the dark euro look. If I can't buy them, does anyone know a good way to mod my own (which is probably a risky proposition)? |
RE: Dark Headlight Housings, '01 2.7T
I also read in an Audiworld forum about replacing the A6 headlight housing with an Allroad housing (the allroad housings are dark)... has anyone had expereince with this? If I could order the allroad housings from the dealer, would they be able to swap them out for a reasonable price (I'm not a big do-it-yourselfer)?

yeah keep me posted too, i love the allroad black housing lights, i wonder if they are compatible.

RE: Dark Headlight Housings, '01 2.7T
Looks like all headlights for the A6 and Allroad are completely interchangable... quite a few forums on Audiworld dealing with is (ps, I hate the Audiworld forum format). Here's an A6 with them:
A6 w/ Allroad Headlights I wonder if you can get the housings WITHOUT the orange relectors (clear-corner), or if you have to remove them yourself... anyone know? |
RE: Dark Headlight Housings, '01 2.7T
i think you need to "bake" the headlights in the oven, then take out the orange reflectors
i did that once with my accord's headlights, then use silicon to glue the housings back it's a tedious process and it's hard to make a perfect fit, perhaps i am just not skilled enough i am surprised there's no aftermarket black housing headlights for the audi! |
RE: Dark Headlight Housings, '01 2.7T
I've read that with a hairdryer/heatgun, and a little patience, you can remove the clear cover without having to "bake" the housing... either way, it would be a lot easier if they just came as clear corners!

yeah... oh well it might not be worth it to go through all the troubles...

Yup, this is a common practice for most of the A6 owners. The allroad housing will fit the V6 A6 from 1998-2001 (not the V8 or 2002-2004). FYI - the allroad housing for the V6 and V8 version (of the allroad) is exactly the same. See my link below to my OEM HID upgrade. Also the dealer charges about $500/complete housing...but the A6 is $600+. Weird. Good luck!! -ted PS: I prefer the audiworld format 'cause you can scan through the posts faster. To each their own. RE: Dark Headlight Housings, '01 2.7T
fyi...I wouldn't put your HID/Xenon lights in the oven. The preferred method is to use a heat gun ($30 from Home Depot; see the paint department).
good luck! |
