Default service oil

I am getting a "service oil" blinking by the trip meter place. When I start my car it blinks and goes off after couple seconds. There is no oil sign. Checked my oil level and it is normal. I also feel that my car is getting heated up after I drive an hour (everyday trip), may be due to summer? Please help thanks.

that is just a reminder to get your oil changed and then the dealer resets your service reminder

look in your manual. It's some series of pulls and holds on the clock adjuster and the mileage adjuster.

- Switch off ignition
- Press button 2 and switch on the ignition while keeping the button pressed. The display will now show "service OIL"
- Pull out button 1 and hold until the letters "service OIL" are cleared. The display will now show "service---".
- Press button 2 again to display "service INSP" and clear it the same way by pulling out button 1

(button 1 is the button on the left)
(button 2 is the button on the right)

-straight outta the manual)

The steps listed above will not work on 97 and older. You need your dealer to use a VAG-COM for that.
Thanks,

I have a 2005 A4 1.8 FWD car and it is starting to do the same thing as is noted in this post. The Oil Pressure light starts flashing after driving the car awhile, but doesnt do it all of the time. I have taken the car to a Jiffy Lube(as it is now out of warranty) and they changed the oil and replaced the filter. I check the oil constantly and it is not evidencing a sign of leakage. Nor does the car seem to heat up or show signs of reduced performance or strange noises. Do I simply need to reset the buttons, as it noted in another post? Thanks for the help!

Holden01

Your problem is likely not the need to have the oil changed, but either a bad oil pressure sender unit, bad oil pump, bad wiring to the instrument cluster, bad dummy light at the cluster, or a combination of the above. Check or have checked the codes via a VAG-COM which will give you a better idea what may be going on with the car. My money is on it being a bad sender unit, but better to be careful instead of frying your motor due to low oil pressure. Another potential source could be that your motor needs to be seafoamed, as it is full of sludge...a wonderful Audi trait. Oil lights are not to be ignored without serious consequences. The original poster was referring to the Service Interval Reminder, not the idiot lamp.
