How are you going to retip the exhaust? I need to do mine as well. Will a muffler place do it for you? I have no idea how to cut the spaces in the black plastic on the bumper. Thanks!

I am gonna buy the tips and do it myself. Acutally, I have the tips, bought some chrome ovals. The length is important with the A6, as the length from mufflers to bumper is about 5-6" Most tips are 11". I wanted dual rounds, but not possible with the stock mufflers, cause the Y pipe makes them 11" long. I found a performance place that was willing to do it, but they weren't willing to bring in a few tipe to look at it, and I think it would have been about $100 for tips, and another $200 for labour.

I haven't done it yet, but here is the plan:

1: Mark out the bumper cover, will make a cardboard template using the tip as a guide, and enlarging to allow for the heat. I expect to need about 1.5-2" from the cover for heat. I will look at other cars to be sure. If i get it too close, it might melt a bit, in which case i can just cut it again. You have to 'project' the cutout onto the bumper, cause a oval shape will need an oval type shape to make it work.

2: Use my Dremel tool and a circular cutting bit to cut the cover. Have to be careful, cause one wrong move and i will hurt the cover and then have to do some crazy insert thing.

3. Use the Dremel tool with a cutting wheel and cut the factor tips off to get rid of the down turn part.

4. Slip the new tips over. You can use the bolts on tips and either tighen, or predrill and use metal screws. Or weld them. I suspect I will go for weld just to make sure they are solid. I will do it myself, likely braze/bronze them on. An exaust place likely do this too for little cost, but ask before u take it to them and start.

The cover cutting is the part that I expect to take the longest and make me most nervous.

i think i might do that, we have the same car, but mine is black, and i really like the chrome tips with black.

Don't want to tell you what to do with your car but you should get those smoked taillights by Hella, they look awesome with silver.

I am thinking of the Hella lights, but thinking of going a different direction. I like blk cars with a few touches of chrome/silver, but with this one, thinking of going all silver. I am thinking of painting the dark grey in the rear bumer silver, white/clear tail lights. clear markers on front, and the pieces around the fog lights silver too. I need to 'Photo Shop" it first to see if i like it though. Also want a lip spoiler too.

My car has higher K... bought it with 152K km 4 months ago.. now got 161K km... Its in great shape, was all highway km from original owner. He was putting 20k Km every 4 months. Am finding that the control arms need replacing, but that normal anyway. Stupid design.. metal in aluminium... they wear fast. I buy them off DriveWire for $65 USD. With the K its got, I expect wear parts to go. Timing belt redone @ 100K km. Trying to decide if I should get the water pump done, or wait till it starts to indicate its got issues.

I do most/all work myself.

Suggestion - If your cutout on the bumper cover looks a bit rough, "outline" it with some door edge molding, cut to fit - should be able to find it in a color to match your cover.

Nice car. I got the steel grey colored A6 and I'm thinkin about smokin out the taillights as well as putting some clear corners and the RS6 spoiler on the back. Might even lower the damn thing!

-Bout the tips...what me and a buddy did to his a6 was cut the hole with a saw-zall as accurate as possible and sand down the rough edges. If you do it right it'll look clean and stock. There are also exhaust valances that will help with the trimwork. I myself like the hidden exhaust and in cold weather it looks cool to see smoke puff outta nowhere but in my next vehicle I got a crazy idea for tips...

I think it would be sick to have an Audi symbol in the rear bumper and have the exhuast pipe go through one of the rings.
