I have a problem with my driver side window. If I press it one time to go up it goes up and stops before the middle and goes down. The only way bring the window up is by pulling it.

Will it go up all the way up if the button is held in the up position? rings for life 09-13-2004, 03:01 AM It's a 98', and no it's not under warranty. Let's say I press the button for the window to go up it goes up and than starts to slow and goes back down again ImolaS4 09-13-2004, 03:06 AM Sounds like a servo motor problem. rings for life 09-13-2004, 03:08 AM I should just buy a new motor for it? I f yes where? ImolaS4 09-13-2004, 03:21 AM Well, maybe. But I'd consider the entire electronic system of the window; from the switch to the motor. It may bne just the motor, it may be just the switch, or it may be both (bad communication). It may be one of those trial by error things... unfortunately. Places to buy...? Dunno... I'll look around. AudiFreak 09-13-2004, 05:24 PM Rings for life, Your problem is most likely caused by a window frame that's worn out. Your window will bu pushed up and because there's room between the glass and the frame, the glass will be pushed up under an angle wich causes resistence. The resistence then exceeds a certain limit which will activate the automatic safety stop, to stop the window going up and then going down. replacing the frame will most likely solve your problem. Good luck ImolaS4 09-13-2004, 05:33 PM Welcome to the forum AudiFreak! This is a great site. We keep the dialogue friendly and the attitude positive. Does the safety stop, you refer to, cause the motor to reverse direction? AudiFreak 09-13-2004, 06:03 PM Yes, it wil cause the motor to reverse direction... The safety stop is designed to prevent people getting stuck... rings for life 09-14-2004, 12:07 AM so not the motor than, ok so what do I ask for when getting the part? dpaulino 11-09-2004, 12:54 PM this happened to my 99....dealer says you have to clean window because the auto stop mechanism mistakes grime on your window as something stopping it from moving. this bullshit reply they gave me really didnt work..so upon further investigation they found out it was the "window lifter". i paid $115 to get it replaced and that has resolved it. now the other window is screwed. clconversion 11-09-2004, 01:53 PM Yes my old 2001 Jetta did that went to the top and when it hit the top it would come back down its a safty issue called pinch control take it somewhere and they may just have to align the window lifter or you might need a new window lifter in some cases kenestle 11-10-2004, 09:26 AM You may try resetting the pinch protection or resetting the windows, this may or may not help but hopefully it will save you from a trip to the stealership. Reset the windows (http://forums.audiworld.com/a6/msgs/320762.phtml) "OK first quick fix is the windows. Do each one one at a time. Roll one down a few inches, then roll it all the way up. After it comes to it's stop let go of the switch and then hold it up again for maybe 2 seconds. That will reset your pinch protection. Do each window, like I said, one at a time." HercDriver 12-23-2004, 04:44 AM Was this problem fixed.....if so how did it go. I just bought my 98 A6 and my driver's side window is doin g the same thing I brought it by the dealership and they said it could be the trac or it needs to be aligned. whatever that means. I tried to tell them that the safety thing was kicking in but they think its something else. I tried the reset thing but it didn't work...what is it supposed to do. I really need help. I just bought this thing and I am in Anchorage AK where it is snowing and I can't really trouble shoot with the threat of snow. Thanks Dan PS I hate it when car dealerships prey on new military members new to snow and cold weather. Of course it is my fault, the one item on the car I didn't check out....THE DAMN WINDOWS kenestle 12-23-2004, 09:25 AM if you just bought it they should replace it, do the rest of the windows do that? HercDriver 12-23-2004, 01:41 PM It didn't come with a warranty, I didn't get it from the Audi Dealership. I just want to find out what others have done, although its not like i need the window right now, its snowing, and it keeps my wife from smoking in the car. Thanks!!! Boston Driver 12-23-2004, 03:25 PM This is a typical failure in the A6. There are very small plastic clips that break after some time. Very inexpensive fix if you want to tackle this yourself, but it involves taking the dor panel off and removing the window to get to the guides. I do not believe it is the motor, since the window operates, but does not go all the way up. Mine did this at 49,750...had the dealer fix it under warranty. Here is a link with some pictures of the broken part if you want to try it yourself: Window guide repair from AudiWorld (http://forums.audiworld.com/a6/msgs/424569.phtml) HercDriver 12-24-2004, 03:46 AM Thats the thing I know it has to be something small, I have had like 3 VWs and taking off the door panel is easy on them but I've looked at this one and it looks hard, do you recomend a repair manual to use I saw your laptop, did you take more detailed pics. Thanks for the knowledge man, It sucks, I've never owned an Audi, I don't have a repair manual let alone an owners manual. I've just moved to alaska. Luckily the base has a cool as garage.
