Greetings, Audi forumites. I just purchased a 2002 A6. I can see the oil filter at the lower driver's side of the engine. I was wondering how to access and remove it for an oil change. It appears that the lower valance must be removed to gain access. Is this correct? If so, how is it accomplished? I can see three torx bolts attaching the valance to the front bumper. Will removing these suffice? Thanks in advance for the info.

What engine do you have? Most likely you will have to remove the skid plate/lower engine cover. Its is held on with 6 screws as I recall. Once they are out, it will come down and you should have access to the filter.

just remember to put a little oil on the rubber seal on the new filter
and if u can, fill the filter with oil b4 installing.

use a mann or wix filter.

no bosch or fram (crap)

synthetic oil and u sholld be fine

There are the three torx screws that you mentioned, one 10mm hex cap screw and at least one plastic 1/4 turn plastic fasteners in each fender well. Six single turn metal fasteners (they look like oversized slotted screws). Three just behind the painted bumper cover's lip in the indent, and three at the rear of the cover. You may also have two very lage (T45 torx) bolts near the front fasteners. You aren't going to be able to install the filter completely filled with oil since it sits at a 90* angle to the ground, and you will pour most of the oil out trying to install the filter. If you feel a good amount of resistance when trying to remve the lower engine cover, you probably have fasteners still holding it on, check very carefully to make sure you got them all.
