Default Royal Purple...Why?

Some people seem to swear by this oil.
Comes in a pretty purple bottle. Otherwise I can't see any reason that it is superior to major manufacturers synthetics, although it costs significantly more.

Their published test results showing superiority are all against dino, and yes, they are marginally better than non-synthetic oil, but so are all the others.

The biggest bargain out there for quality oil seems to be Rotella T synthetic, at 15 dollars a gallon. Half the cost of Royal Purple.

I've never heard of Rotella T, but I used Royal Purlpe based on friends and mechanics experiences. My mechanic used it in aircraft and drag engines and swore by it. I saw first hand what it did for his cylinder head temps and metal particulates in engine oil assays from his plane and was sold. Granted he didn't compare those two oils directly, but seeing how well the Purple performed in entreme applications sold me. Now I use Mobil 1 syn because it is much cheaper, easier to get and according to the research I did it performs pretty close to the Purlpe. It's amazing how much of a leap in preformance the sythetics oils have made in the last ten years.

How much is the Amsoil? I haven't found it here, except at the race shops (not retail) at the track.

Can't beat the colors. Royal Purple (5w-30) Turbo Blue (116 octane)

I just wish I could get the colors, without incurring huge Fed Ex bills.

I think you're right on that. The race groups at the track aren't retailers but they're listed on the Amsoil and Purple sites. My old shop use to be a dealer, course they went out of business, so a lot of good that does me.

Oddly enough, everything I have ordered online has been shipped UPS ground. I guess it's the cheapest way to go, but in all the years I've been using Fed EX (20-30 shipments a week for 7 years) they have never let me down. I have had a package lost by UPS.
