Limbo -> Temp. in Audi 80 1992 1.9 TDI (10/10/2005 10:00:25 AM)

Hi people. I am new to this forum. I have a problem with my Audi 80, 1.9 TDI from 1992. When I bought the car the temp. was constantly at 80. One year ago I got problems with the temp. going up to about 95 under heavy load. I contacted my Audi dealer, which changed pump and thermostat, but the problem was still there. They then told me that the water was leaking into the engine, and that this repair would cost 2,500$. I went to another mechanic who told me that the problem was not with the water leaking into the engine's oil, but he was unable to fix my problem. Then came winther, and it got a little better, so I didn't worry about it, until this summer, when the problem again got worse. When I drive up-hill I get temp. around 95, which is too much. Sometimes it reaches 100. Anyone got any ideas? How high temp. can the car take before I should worry about it? There are 2 fans in the front. When are these supposed to start working? Yesterday I started the car in the carage, and the temp. got up to 100 degrees, but the fans were not moving. Is this normal? Overall it seems that the car enjoys beeing between 80 and 95 degrees. If I don't put load on the car, the temp. will fall to 80. When driving up-hill it goes up to 95 - 100. Any kind of reply is appreciated. Thanks, Limbo
