Default alternator belt

Folks,
I am having trouble with the alternator belt breaking. I have put three on in last two weeks.
Alternator is squealing slightly and noise will go away at times.
Belt has been put on taut / loose; but have broken with both conditions.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Sounds like you have a bad bearing in the alternator. Runs for a while siezes, snaps the belt, you free it up as you try to put on a new one.

Had a similar prob with a bad AC compressor, run and work for a while, snap the belt, put a new one on, run and snap again, in a short time.

Sorry,

George

Urgent reply requested.

Thanks,

The alternator that you replaced was it a remanufactured unit or another one from a bone yard? Is the belt old or new? Might be a good idea to also check the alternator mounting bracket for alignment, the pulleys should be in line and not offset or at an angle.
