ive got a 1.8t quattro 2001 it seems to be a bit hesitant sometimes,i was traveling along 5th gear dropped it into 4th put my foot down and it was allmost like a missfire i held it down thinking it may clear it held back a couple of times then it went ?? so i took it along the motorway at a reasonable speed it wasnt as quick as usual but it was quite clear,now reading someone else`s post the last couple of times ive put fuel in it ive had it from the supermarket std unleaded !!!!!is this the problem or is it somewhere else????

when was the fuel filter changed/check air filter/spark plugs/ oil and filter change due?

ive had the fuel/oil and air filter changed only a matter of weeks ago,it does seem very heavy on fuel,could there be a connection

Well it is never a good idear to run a high tech top of the market car on cheap supermarket fuel as you won't get the true performance and will somtimes cause you extra probloms if you use it to much, so prehaps this may be the first thing you try another quick and easy test to carry out is on th eair mass meter disconect the air mass and drive the car if the car stop hesitating and performs good then it means that your air mass is in need of being changed.(warning, if you disconect the air mass it will proberly cause the engine managment light to come on and won't go off again with out being rest by a diagnostic computer.)

i had the same thing (i think) disconnected air mass meter (check out www.wak-tt.com and look for MAF stuff to show how to do it) turned ignition on but not started car, waited for all the beeps / clicks to finish so i knew the initialisations were complete (throttle bodies i think) and then took it for a spin, no probs whatsoever so i have ordered a new MAF from ebay, £50 delivered next day!

that site lists how to remove the MAF and clean it, cleaning didnt work for me but give them both a go and see how you get on, but if you blow anything up please dont blame me! (just a disclaimer there :-)

p.s - it didnt cause any CEL or warning lights for me, which was handy but annoying that the car didnt know.....
