I purchased my first Audi on this last thursday from a person in Indiana and I have to tell you I love the car and all of its features. Now the reason I'm here is because about an hour into the trip home the check engine light came on (great). I called the guy the next day to ask if this ever happened and he said it was probably just the gas cap and it should go away. I used to be a machanic so I finally had a reason to go buy an OBDII scanner. The code is P0741 Torque Converter Clutch Circ Performance or Stuck Off. The car seems to run and shift perfectly, anyone have any experience with this? I used to be a mechanic so I know I can do almost any job put in front of me, but I haven't had any experience with an Audi. Is the torque converter going out? a sensor? anyone....I know I should just take it to the dealership, but after seeing some of the dirty tricks pulled by mechanics you never know if you need everything they say you do.

wiring to (TCC) Torque Converter Clutch solenoid, it could be a broken wire or the solenoid is stuck

Nope its not an open in the wiring

That code means only one thing, you need a new converter and I hope you have a deep wallet

Why must everyone say this because that's what the book says, if it were the converter the book of codes would say that

Oh right the book says it

But the book and the fault codes are very generic

This is a very feared fault at the dealer esp on a warranty car

Any techs dealt with this before??

the only thing that concerns me is that there is no problems with the shifting, it seems in the converter was going bad you would notice something. If it comes to replacing the converter though I will be doing it myself so all I should have into it is parts.

although the codes in my book tell you the problem they also tell you the reason why "wiring/stuck solenoid/shot solenoid", I'm glad you mention the age of the car as divandy1 didn't also engine size this information is needed for the troubleshooter

hey, thanks for the info, as for the engine size its the 3.0L. Is there a seperate or another code I would be getting if the torque converter was bad?

there are many codes for auto transmission but they are specific as your fault code is, I would suggest your converter is ok because it goes through the gears with no problem, reset the code and see if it comes back as it might be a soft error code like it only happened once so its stored as soft code
